Jack Ma: I was wondering why people in Vietnam are so happy [Jack Ma's address to Vietnamese young people (part 1)]

  • 00:02
    Good afternoon everyone.
  • 00:05
It’s my great honor to be invited.
  • 00:08
I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity to communicate with young people,
  • 00:15
entrepreneurs, students for a long time.
  • 00:19
Thanks for Prime Minister invitation. He said Jack please come to Vietnam,
  • 00:27
spend sometimes with the young people, share your experience of doing business.
  • 00:34
So, I came 2 nights ago.
  • 00:38
In the evening, I walked around the streets in Hanoi.
  • 00:42
I’m very inspired because there are so many young people in this country.
  • 00:51
And they will... they always have great smile,
  • 00:55
energetic, and they’re all playing all kinds of games on the street.
  • 01:01
I was wondering why people in Vietnam are so happy.
  • 01:06
One of the reasons I think is because you are very young
  • 01:11
    Young people
  • 01:13
but the great thing is the young people is if they are ahppy for their future,
  • 01:17
if they are optimistic for the future,
  • 01:21
and that means they are optimistic for their country.
  • 01:25
So today I come here to share some of my ideas how to do business.
  • 01:34
    Like most people here,
  • 01:38
I was not born in a rich family.
  • 01:41
    I don’t have rich father,
  • 01:44
    I don’t have a powerful uncle
  • 01:47
    and i don’t have anything.
  • 01:49
    I failed many many times
  • 01:51
    in school, in finding jobs.
  • 01:55
But I think this is all the great experience I have.
  • 01:59
    Because I failed,
  • 02:01
I learn things from the mistakes, I learn things from my failure.
  • 02:07
    So even today,
  • 02:09
    Alibaba is very big,
  • 02:12
but we still believe there are a lot of mistakes, a lot of failures ahead of us.
  • 02:19
When we meet this kind of failure, mistakes, I never worry
  • 02:24
because I know life is full of mistakes.
  • 02:28
But if there’s no people to help you, don’t worry because no people help you - this is very natural.
  • 02:36
People help you - this is unnatural
  • 02:39
because there’s no reason why people should help you.
  • 02:44
I think if you want to open a right business, a good business,
  • 02:48
you should pick up a right time with the right people.
  • 02:52
Right time. I think today the whole world for doing business is a right time.
  • 02:58
We are at the time of the third technology revolution.
  • 03:04
Every technology revolution takes out of 50 years.
  • 03:10
So internet has just a past 20 years. The next 30 years,
  • 03:15
those people who make full use of the internet in their business,
  • 03:21
in their life, those people will be successful.
  • 03:25
    I feel
  • 03:27
that next 30 years, the artificial intelligence, next 30 years, many things will change
  • 03:34
    especially in the business community.
  • 03:37
    Right? For example,
  • 03:38
the big old way we do business in the past 100 years is called B2C.
  • 03:44
    In the future, it’s C2B - “Consumers-to-Business”
  • 03:48
The last century, this is called the IT technology.
  • 03:51
This century is called data technology. It's called the DT technology
  • 03:56
    And last century,
  • 03:58
because of globalization only helped 20% of the developing countries,
  • 04:05
globalization only helped 20% of the big companies.
  • 04:12
This century, the business is going to focus on 80% of the small business.
  • 04:19
This century, because of new technology, we have to rely a lot on young people.
  • 04:26
So I think those countries, if they have a lot of young people,
  • 04:30
if they rely on young people,
  • 04:32
if they really give the trust on young people,
  • 04:35
those are the countries which have great hope.
  • 04:39
Every country I go, I talk to the government: please pay special attention to the following, please pay special attention to the next 30 years
  • 04:50
because the nest 30 years are the most important years in humankind.
  • 04:58
Please pay attention to those young people who are below 30 years old.
  • 05:03
Please pay attention to the companies who have fewer than 30 employees.
  • 05:10
Because small business would be the driver of this century.
  • 05:15
    Last century, big companies
  • 05:18
    big size- big money,
  • 05:20
    these companies will be successful.
  • 05:23
This century, those companies who were small,
  • 05:27
more flexible or innovative or creative or constructive
  • 05:32
these people will be success... these companies will be successful.
