W: Hi, Michael, can I have a word?
M: Certainly, Megan. Come in. How is the preparation for the conference going?
W: Well, that's what I wanted to speak to you about.
M: No problems I hope...
W: No; no real problems. But I've just finished writing my presentation, and really I have no idea if it's at the right level for the audience. I was wondering, since you've been to a lot of these conferences, if you could listen to my presentation and tell me what you think.
M: Yes, of course. However, I have a deadline on Thursday, and my schedule's pretty full... When's your conference?
W: The 10th.
M: Oh, okay! You have a bit of time then. How about Friday the 5th, in the morning?
W: That would be great, thanks.

M: Hello, can I help you?
W: Yes, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but I'm looking for some information on your organization. You see, I've just graduated, and I'd like to get involved doing some voluntary work with disabled children this summer. I have my CV. Am I in the right office?
M: No, I'm afraid you want to talk to Anna, in 261 B. She's not in this afternoon though. She only works from 9am to 1pm each day.
W: Oh.
M: But do come back tomorrow if you can; I know she's always looking for volunteers.

M: Yes, this morning. We'll leave at 18:45 on Thursday, and arrive at 22:10 in Berlin. Then we'll return...
W: Wait a minute, didn't Elsie tell you that I'm not available on Thursday evening? I have to work till 8pm! I said specifically that I need to go Friday morning. We don't have to be there till the afternoon, after all!
M: Uh, no. I didn't hear anything about this.
W: Great! What are we going to do now?
M: Well, I just have to call back and change your ticket I guess.

W: It certainly is. It's just a shame we're stuck in here behind computers!
M: You can say that again! Any exciting plans for the weekend?
W: Yes, Todd and I want to take the kids to the seaside. I hope the weather holds up.
M: Hmm, what a shame we can't take 'sun days'; you know, like sick days! One day a month, in cases of exceptional weather, to maintain our mental health and well being!

M: Yes, well, I wanted to let you know that there's no way I'm going to finish my section.
W: Why's that?
M: It's just not realistically possible - lots of problems in the data.
W: Yes, most of us are struggling. I guess I'll have to try to arrange an extension. Thanks for letting me know anyway.

W: I don't know. I think she might. When I met with her for coffee, and she told me the news, her eyes were sparkling, and she had a huge smile! She was talking mostly about the disadvantages, though.
M: What a hard decision! Australia is very far away. She would miss her family and friends.

W: Emm, no, actually.
M: You didn't? You were so excited about it last week!
W: Yes, that car was a super deal, and I loved the color, but I've decided that I don't need a car. What would I be using it for? Really, only trips on the weekend. I take the underground to work and that's fine. I could just rent a car for the weekend sometimes and it would come out a lot cheaper.
M: Yes, but I think if you have to rent a car, you would be much less likely to go. If the car is sitting there waiting, you're almost obligated to go on a trip!

Okay, it's not the end of the world if I don't eat it because at least I've got the steak and chips, but it's just that I specifi-cally asked...

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this special opening ceremony today. Today is the result of over five year's planning and hard work as we finally open this magnificent building. Of course, we must thank the Bradford family who have given their wonderful art collection to the city. You will see many fine examples of classical and modern art on the walls around you. The Bradford family made their fortune making and selling beautiful clothes but, luckily for us, they spent a lot of their money on works of art. And now, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Alan Bradford, the great grandson of the late Charles Bradford who will officially open the building and make a little speech himself.

Five out of the twelve signs of the zodiac have already been removed from view by light pollution and campaigners are trying to persuade governments to do something to change this problem. The amount of light pouring out into the night sky has increased by a quarter in the past ten years and only eleven per cent of the country is free of light pollution. Good morning, this is the 9 o'clock business news! The dollar has edged towards seven-week lows against both the yen and the euro because of fears about poor US retail sales and banking results. Investment banks have already predicted that the US economy will fall into recession in 2008, and analysts are also nervously awaiting the release of retail sales data for December. As consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of the US economy, the figure may indicate whether the fears are correct. In December, the US Federal Reserve cut the interest rates for the third time as it tried to help steer the world's largest economy through the continuing housing slump.

I'm sending out this reminder that we are holding Software Training Sessions this Friday in the Computer Lab. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session, so be sure to sign up for your preference in the IT office if you haven't already. Each session should take about four hours.
I'm sure you realize the importance of these sessions, as there has been considerable discussion of our company's decision m change from Windows to Linux running systems, and concern about making a smooth transition. I want to say again that we are not expecting any difficulties. Utrans is a very user-friendly program. Dr. Brian Weston will be doing the training, and you will be in good hands.

To: Richard Brown Hi Richard, I've found a promising-looking restaurant for our company lunch; it's Bells Diner. I went yesterday with my cousin and her husband, and the food was really something. It's not the typical diner you might think of! It has an informal, friendly atmosphere, sophisticated yet rustic decor, equally sophisticated modern European menu and rather elegant clientele. It is housed in a Victorian building split into two rooms, and I think one is available for group reservations, so that would be ideal Shall I go ahead and make a reservation? Lunch goes on rather late in the afternoon, as you can see from the information I've attached, so there shouldn't be any problem if the design meetings run a little over time Tara Larson |

FIRE PROCEDURE
If you detect FIRE or SMOKE, do this at once:
- STAY CALM and use common sense
- Close the door to CONFINE the fire and smoke
- ACTIVATE THE FIRE ALARM - a small red box located on the well near each exit. Follow the instructions on the alarm.
- REPORT THE FIRE. Call UAB Police at 911 or use HELP PHONE, identify yourself and tell the dispatcher the exact location of the fire or smoke and what is burning.
- EVACUATE. All building occupants should proceed to the nearest exit, move away from the building and assemble in a location predetermined by your supervisor. This will provide a quick and easy way to account for all personnel. It is also important that the fire department has clear and unobstructed access to the building.
Câu 173: During a fire, why should you close doors?
Câu 174: What is NOT mentioned as something that you should tell the dispatcher after dialing 911?
Câu 175: What should you plan before a fire happens?

You have two options; we have an intensive weekend course which runs for two weekends in the beginning of September, both Saturday and Sunday mornings, for 8 hours each day, and we also have evening courses that meet from 7 - 9pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays for three months. Both courses cost 900 dollars. The courses are held at the Community College, and you would need to go there to register. I would recommend you register as soon as possible as the courses are filling up quickly! If you have further questions, you can call me at 376 330 0524 between 8am and 4pm. Karen Miller |

Pull the mask gently towards you to begin the flow of oxygen. The bag will not fully inflate. Always put on your own mask before attempting to help others.
